As infant formula processors strive for continuous improvement in safety, quality and hygiene in a highly competitive market, the PLF VGS™ vacuum gassing seamer from PLF International provides an innovative new approach. A gassing solution that’s exceedingly sustainable, PLF VGS™ is the optimal slow-speed application technology for modified atmosphere packaging of infant formula and special medical formula powders.
PLF VGS™ processes up to 30 cans per minute with low gas consumption of 15m³ per hour during start-up to reduce enclosure down to less than 1% Oxygen, followed by 17m³ per hour during production. This provides a smaller machinery footprint than other existing technologies on clean room floors. Vacuum gassing and seaming operations are carried out separately in the PLF design, enabling container rims to be sealed during the vacuum-gassing process, which ultimately keeps container rims clean for subsequent seaming and prevents powder from migrating out of containers.
