Plum Organics Recognized as a Transparency Leader in Baby Food Reporting

Plum Organics, a leading brand in organic baby food, has been recognized by Consumer Reports and Unleaded Kids as one of the top-performing companies for transparency in reporting levels of lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury in its products, as required under California’s landmark AB 899 law.

Plum Organics earned the top score among 39 baby food brands evaluated for how easily parents can access this product information. The review applauded Plum’s straightforward, public disclosure of monthly heavy metal testing results – available both online and via QR codes on product packaging – empowering parents to make informed choices about their children’s nutrition.

“Parents should feel confident that the food they’re providing for their little ones meets exceptional quality standards,” said Alicia Vasquez, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Plum Organics. “Plum Organics is deeply committed to transparency and compliance with AB 899. All heavy metal test results are publicly available on our website – no lot code, purchase, or QR code required. Consumers can access results at any time, and we’re proud to be recognized for making this information easy to find and understand.”

Commitment to Transparency

In compliance with AB 899, effective January 2024, Plum Organics tests all batches of baby food products for heavy metals using accredited labs and publishes results that are clear and readily accessible to all consumers. These results are available on Plum’s website and via scannable QR codes on packaging, without requiring extra steps such as lot numbers or UPC codes.

Plum Organics also goes beyond compliance by:

  • Voluntarily publishing all 2024 and 2025 test results – not just those required for products sold in California.
  • Offering educational resources for parents to understand test data.
  • Including a QR code on every pouch that links directly to product-specific testing results, making it easy for parents to check data before they buy.

Leading an Industry Shift

California’s AB 899 has set a precedent for transparency, with similar laws already passed in Maryland and Virginia, and more expected in Illinois and Pennsylvania. By swiftly meeting regulatory requirements and striving for greater openness, Plum Organics is helping lead the industry toward a new standard where parents can easily compare brands.
